Mary Jane Schmidt

Schmidt creates harmony out of the diversity she finds around her, referring to her works at "antonyms of nature".  She tries to create an environment of beauty and personal expression in each of her works--whether it is an acrylic on canvas or paper, a mixed media piece, or a monotype.  She does not attempt to convey literal transtations or comments, but allows for the viewer to arrive at his or her own meaning for the works.  Schmidt strives for movement and spontaneity in her paintings utilizing color combinations that are both interesting and unusual.  Her paintings achieve a dynamic blend of drama, tension, contrast, and strength.  Schmidt paints in both abstract and floral styles, achieving a brilliant palette of colors.  Schmidt is the recipient of numerous awards and is in major art collections around the U.S.
